CALL USA or local utility locator. <br /> Ensure that all trained employees are briefed on current conditions, <br /> understand their role in the work plan, and review the MSDS on tank <br /> contents. <br /> Have knowledge and understanding of contents of the tank. <br /> Secure the area; fence, post warning signs around the site, control <br /> pedestrians&traffic. <br /> Ban smoking. <br /> Control static electricity. <br /> Disconnect all electrical and internal combustion equipment not required to <br /> remain. Shut down all open flame and spark producing devices within the <br /> vapor hazard area. <br /> Hot days with no breeze should be treated with added caution as vapors <br /> may not dispurse. <br /> Tank should be approached from the sides as explosions typically release <br /> their energy through the ends of the tank. <br /> Tank Preparation <br /> If a significant amount of product remains in the tank remove product prior <br /> to commencing with tank preparation. Any existing product, residues and <br /> rinsates will be removed from the tank and either hauled to waste by <br /> vacuum truck or temporarily stored on-site in an approved tank(stored <br /> until a significant amount of liquid, residue and rinsate is accumulated, then <br /> hauled by vacuum truck to an owner approved certified disposal facility). <br /> The material will be manifested by both the transporter and the disposal <br /> facility. A copy of the manifest will be submitted to the regulatory <br /> agencies. <br /> Excavate to the top of the tank and expose product lines. During all <br /> excavations monitor the excavated material for signs of contamination <br /> (odor, staining, ect.) . If excavated material is suspected of being <br /> contaminated the material shall be kept separate from clean material. The <br /> suspected material shall be stockpiled on a impervious barrier unless the <br /> material is being loaded into trucks for immediate removal. <br /> I <br />
