Page 3
On March 14 , 1989 , a well survey was conducted at the Department of
Water Resources in Sacramento Approximately 40 wells were found
within a one-mile radius of the site, the closest well (that could
be accurately located) was situated 2 , 004 feet to the northwest
In addition, Kleinfelder previously reported an agricultural well
(located approximately 1/4 or 1/2 mile southwest of the site) at
Delta College, which appeared to influence the ground water flow
direction and gradient in the shallow monitoring wells at the
Unocal site The results of KEI ' s well survey are summarized in
Table 6 , and the locations of the wells are shown on the attached
Well Location Map, Figure 5
In a letter dated August 25 , 1989 , the RWQCB, Central Valley
Region, stated soil contamination at the site had been adequately
addressed by the previous work
On February 19 , 1991 , a meeting was held at the office of the
SJCPHS in Stockton, California The purpose of the meeting was to
discuss the past work that had been conducted at the sub3ect site,
and to develop a plan to continue the ground water investigation at
and in the vicinity of the site Attending the meeting were Ms
Diane Hinson of the SJCPHS and representatives of both Unocal and
• KEI
It was agreed in the meeting that since soil contamination at the
site had been adequately addressed and remediated that Unocal would
institute a phased approach in defining, evaluating, and then
remediating (if necessary) the ground water contamination at the
site In Phase I of the approach, Unocal agreed to perform the
following tasks
1 Perform a survey of all existing monitoring wells at the
sub3ect site Measure water levels and sample all wells which
were not dry
2 Make necessary repairs to all ground water monitoring wells
that could be salvaged All vadose zone wells originally
installed by Kleinfelder, and all monitoring wells found to be
damaged beyond repair were to be properly destroyed after
applicable permits were obtained
3 Conduct a detailed review of available records concerning
other past and ongoing environmental investigations in the
general area This information would help determine the
placement of additional monitoring wells (if necessary) .
4 Prepare a techni-cal report summarizing the activities men-
tioned above
K&I-P88-1013 APA
