The backhoe was used to excavate the nortiern
sidewall an additional 6 to 12 feet and the southern sidewall was excavated
an additional seven feet to remove contaminated soils. Two verification
soil samples were thi _ , each sidewall. All samples were
analyzed for T . A verification soil sample was also taken at
e' a depth of approximately 11 feet (one foo;: below the bottom of the
excavation). These samples were analyzed for TEPH, TVPH, purgeable
i' aromatics, and purgeable halocarbons. A summary of analyses of all
verification soil samples is presented in Table 1. Complete certified
laboratory reports are given in Appendix A. The final limits of the former
l tank excavation can be seen on Figure 1. The results of the analyses are
discussed'further herein.
F Following soil remediating; activities, the monitorinC well located
immediately adjacent to .the former tank excavation (Figure 1) was purged
and sampled. Five well-baro volumes of ground water were removed during
purging. .The well was then allowed to recharge. Ground water samples were
collected with a Teflon bailer. Shipping and handling protocol was
consistent with guidelines-established in the Soil Remediation Work plan.
The ground water samples were analyzed for TEPH, TVPH, purgeable aromatics
and purgeable halocarbons. The analyses are summarized in Table 3.
Complete certifie. laboratory reports are included in Appendix A.
Tempora Soil storage
f
Soils removed from the excavation were stockpiled along the southern
boundary of the facility. ..A separate clF:,n stockpile was established for
apparently uncontaminated near-surface soils removed from the excavation. t
During the tank removal, excavated soils which were stockpiled near the
excavation had been similarly separated. These soils were transferred to
? the stockpiles located along the southern site boundary.
