No information was available from the DWR regarding the Site's abandoned facility well,
' observed by the PHS/EHD on February 26, 1992. Details regarding construction of the well
are currently being investigated
1 3.0 METHODS AND PROCEDURES
3.1 Drilling Activities
On February 24, and 27, 1992, RESNA Industries advanced a total of three soil borings for the
' purpose of assessing subsurface conditions underlying the Site The boring/well locations are
shown on Figure 2 All borings were advanced to a depth of approximately 30 feet below grade
using a drilling ng with 8-inch diameter continuous-flight, hollow-stem augers Groundwater
was first encountered at approximately 15 to 16 feet below grade in each boring
Drill cuttings 1 n
t gs w r e e logged continuously for characterization of contamination and soil type by
a geologist employing the Unified Soil Classification System Descriptions of soils encountered
and monitoring well construction details were recorded on boring/well logs and are included as
Appendix II
All borings were sampled at 5-foot depth intervals using a split-spoon sampler with brass liners
The materials from one sample liner were described and field screened with a photoionization
detector {PID} for volatile organic content A second liner was sealed at each end with a Teflon
sheet and plastic cap, secured with polyethylene tape, sealed in air-tight bags, and preserved on
' ice pending shipment to a state-certified laboratory
' Between sampling attempts, all sampling equipment was cleaned using a three-bucket wash
system In this system, the liners and samplers are scrubbed with a brush in a bucket of tap
water and detergent, rinsed in a second bucket of tap water, and given a final rinse in a bucket
of distilled water
At least two soil samples from each boring were submitted for laboratory analysis Samples
were selected based upon field PID readings and/or changes in lithology
' R-61292 TL 3
