1 i <br />' Investigate the UST release to document vertical and lateral impacts of the fuel release to soil <br /> • and groundwater around the former USTs <br /> I <br /> In addition, it was agreed that The Learner Company would prepare a UST Site Investigation <br />' Workplan and submit it to the EHD and the UST Cleanup Fund for review and approval before <br />' commencing with site investigation activities The workplan will be prepared to follow the <br /> requirements of the Tri-Regional Board Staff Recommendations for Preliminary Evaluation and <br />' Investigation of Underground Tank Sites <br />' 2.0 COMPLETED ACTIVITfES <br />' <br /> Subsequent to the meeting referred to above, the hydrocarbon-impacted soils were recharacterized <br /> q g , <br />' and the UST excavation was backfilled for safety reasons Also, the Learner Company agreed to <br /> conduct an additional investigation to document vertical and lateral hydrocarbon impacts <br /> I� <br /> 2.1 Stockpile Sampling and Evaluation <br />' On December 19, 1996, The Learner Company, with assistance from Clayton, sampled the impacted <br /> sod stockpiled adjacent to the open excavation, under the supervision of Mr Harlin Knoll of EHD <br />' A total of nine samples was collected from the stockpile, at locations numbered SP-1 through SP-9 <br /> Figure 3 shows the nine sample locations The individual samples were combined into three <br />' composite samples, numbered SP-1 through SP-3, SP-4 through SP-6, and SP-7 through SP-9 <br />' Each sample was collected in a 2-inch diameter by 6-inch long brass sampling sleeve The ends of <br /> the sleeve were covered with a Teflon sheet, capped, and labeled with the appropriate date, time, and <br /> sample designation The samples were then placed into a cooler containing reusable ice and delivered <br />' to Clayton's laboratory in Pleasanton, a California Certified Laboratory Samples were transported <br /> .
