FIRE EMERGENCIES
• Get help.Notify supervision.
— Do not attempt to fight fire alone.
• Use a fire extinguisher to put out the fire. Do not endanger yourself.
— Point the extinguisher at the base of the flame--not the flames themselves.
— Do not let the fire come between you and a safe exit.
• Immediately notify your Team Leader. Use the attached directory of emergency contact numbers.
• Get others to evacuate the area.
• If the fire cannot be extinguished, or if you are being exposed to noxious smoke, fumes,or vapors, start the
evacuation process. Follow the evacuation procedures described earlier.
SPILLS OR LOSS OF CONTAINMENT
• Cleanup and control of spills or losses of containment that are not fire, health or safety hazards:
— Wear the appropriate protective clothing and equipment.
— Use absorbents, pigs,or blankets to collect spilled solvents and other hazardous materials. After the
absorbents have collected the material, place in a labeled, closed container. Recycle absorbents.
— Non-hazardous liquids(soapy water, etc.)may be diverted into sewer drain(inside floor sumps).
— NEVER DIVERT OR DISPOSE OF SPILLED HAZARDOUS MATERIAL INTO A STORM DRAIN.
• Evacuate the area and contact a Team Leader,Business Unit Manager or the Facilities Manager if.
— You are unsure of the nature of the spill.
— The spill is flammable and large enough to create a fire/explosion hazard, and any sources of ignition are
present that cannot be removed or turned off.
— The spill produces or presents an immediate health or safety hazard that requires the use of a respirator or
specialized protective clothing to control or cleanup.
— The spill releases hazardous material into the environment, sewer, storm drains, or crosses the property
line.
POWER FAILURES
• If electrical power fails, turn off all computer equipment and powered tools in your work area.
• If the power failure lasts for more than five minutes do not remain in your work area,if emergency lights
provide the only lighting.
7
