Mist can cause severe irritation or burns to eyes, nose, throat and <br /> lungs. <br /> ® Block off area-keep employees out of the area <br /> ® If outside, stay upwind of spill <br /> ® Isolate area and snake notifications <br /> Safeway employees will proceed with the following only-for "small spills" other than protecting storm <br /> drains; for large spills contract responders will clean up releases. <br /> a DO NOT put water directly onto an acid spill—heat evolution may occur causing a violent reaction <br /> ® Put on required PPE(personal protective clothing) <br /> Splash proof chemical goggles and face shield if needed <br /> Rubber chemical resistant gloves <br /> + Neoprene boots <br /> • Neoprene full protective clothing(both upper and lower body) <br /> An eye wash/shower or running water should be in the .area — if not, have bottles of eyewash <br /> available <br /> ® Position battery to stop further leakage-if battery is overturned,upright the battery <br /> ® If necessary,plug drains with drain blocker mat <br /> ® If necessary,build retention dike using absorbent boom <br /> ® Apply floor absorbent to the spill <br /> ® Place spilled material in a labeled waste drum <br /> Flush spill area with water [DO NOT ALLOW TO ENTER STORM DRAINS!] <br /> ® Wash hands thoroughly <br /> ® If water spill — this material is heavier and completely soluble in water. Stop or divert water flow. <br /> Dike contaminated waters and remove for disposal <br /> ® Notify the Distribution Center Risk Control Supervisor and/or Food Safety/Environmental Affairs <br /> Manager <br />
