All soil samples were collected in
+ brass sample tubes The pits were then backfilled with clean soil.
3.2 Soil Sampling and Testing
The soil samples were submitted to FGL Environmental for laboratory testing. Each sample
was tested for the presence of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as gasoline and/or as diesel
(TPH-G & TPH-D) using EPA method 3510/8015m and for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene
and xylene (BTEX) using EPA method 8020. The samples were also tested for the presence
of total lead using method 7420 and for EDB using method 8010. The sample results and
method detect limits are summarized in the following table.
Ethyl Total TPH TPH Total
Sample I.D. The material is typically a very dark gray
to dark gray clay which becomes calcareous at about 20 to 40 inches below the surface.
Permeability is fairly poor. Deeper portions of the unit may grade to a yellowish loam.
V
Based on the map Lines of Equal Elevation of Water in Water Welly, Unconfined Aguifer,
. Spring 1994, by the San Joaquin County Flood Control and Water Conservation District,
groundwater is estimated to lie at a depth of about 80 feet or less below grade and flow in a
nearly horizontal plane. Information from groundwater monitoring wells at nearby sites which
+„ were examined as a part of this investigation. The LUST site at Gilley's Trucking which lies
nearby on the west side of Newton Road, has been investigated and groundwater monitoring
wells have been installed. In December 1995 the depth to groundwater was found to be 63
.. feet below ground surface. The gradient at Gilley's was found to have a weak southerly
flow gradient.
19
Phase One Environmental Inc.
ar 2937 Veneman Ave., 48240 Modesto,CA 95356
(209) 569-0293
