HEALTH SEIWICESPUBI:i'C . ..o
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY r.
JOGI KHANNA M.D.,M.RH.
Health Officer p
P.O. Box 2009 (1601 East Hazelton Avenue) Stockton,California 95201
(209) 468-3400
July 27, 1989
Tri Valley Growers
Attn: Juan G. Quijano
P.O. Box 1211
Modesto CA 95353
RE: Subsurface Investigation Report ; 26200 Nowell Road, Thornton
We have attempted to review the report submitted for the above referenced
facility. We have the following comments regarding the submitted report:
1. Refer to the Tri Regional staff Recommendations for the specific
procedures, minimum information, and report formats necessary to enable
the San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health
Division and Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB) to conduct a
speedy review.
2. Submit the lab results from soil samples taken during re-excavation and
aeration of soils from tank pit A. (Exceltech, Inc. reported dated July
28, 1982. )
3. Illustrate the location and the depth samples were taken from the tank
pit for March 23, 1989; provide top view and cross-sectional diagrams.
4. Provide evidence for review by this office to support lead levels are
background levels.
5. While investigative work remains to be done at this site, monthly water
level measurements and quarterly sampling shall be continued. Quarterly
reports are to be submitted to both Environmental Health and Regional
Water Quality Control Board by mid-April, July- October, and January for
the previous calendar quarter.
6. We recommend additional sampling be conducted on monitoring well #1 due
to the high level of oil and grease found. Include information
supporting elimination of source and lab analyses with next quarterly
report.
We are enclosing Tri-Regional Board Staff Recommendations and Appendix A for
your reference in compiling adequate reports and work plans for review.
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
