20 August 1998
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0483
will then be pulled upward to allow ground water to flow into the screen.
A bailer fitting will then be placed on the end of 3/s-inch diameter polyethylene tubing, inserted
through the rod assembly into the exposed screen, through which water will be manually pumped.
The following procedures will be performed for the advancement of soil probe borings: .
1. Notify the PHS-EHD at least 48 hours prior to commencement of any work.
2. Initially, advance one(1)soil probe boring at the, site to a depth of approximately 30 feet bsg.
If field screening of soil samples indicates that significant hydrocarbon-impaction is present,
the probe boring may be advanced to greater depths and/or additional probe borings will be
advanced. Proposed boring locations are depicted on.Figure 2.
3. Probe boring(s)will using a van-mounted Geoprobe probing unit equipped with 1.125-inch
diameter rods.
4. Obtain soil samples at five foot intervals using a Geoprobe soil sampling assembly pre-
loaded with four 1.125-inch by 6-inch brass sleeves.
5. Discrete soil samples will be collected at five-foot intervals beginning at a depth of 5 feet bsg
using a Geoprobe soil sampling assembly loaded with four pre-cleaned 1.125-inch by 6-inch
brass sleeves. Soil samples will be preserved by covering both ends of the second brass
- sleeve with Teflon sheets, capping and sealing with tape. Each sample sleeve will be labeled
with the following information: soil probe boring location, depth, time, date and sampler's
initials.
6. Document samples on a chain-of-custody form.
7. Store samples in a chilled container and transport to a State-certified laboratory for analysis.
Proposed analysis are detailed in Section 3.0.
8. .Monitor soil sample duplicates for the presence of volatile organics using and organic vapor
meter equipped with a photo-ionization detector(PID)pre-calibrated to isobutylene.
9. Log soil sample duplicates in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System.
10. Backfill each probe boring to surface grade using Portland cement.
4.2. EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION
All probing rods, sampling tools and sample liners used for sample collection will be thoroughly
washed in an Alconox solution'and rinsed with clean water prior to advancement of each boring or
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
