Sheen. An iridescent appearance on the surface of the water. (40 CFR 110.1) <br /> Spill Event. A discharge of oil into or upon navigable waters of the United States or <br /> adjoining shorelines in harmful quantities as defined in 40 CFR 110.3 (40 CFR 112.2). <br /> Specifically, a spill event would include (1) a discharge of 1,000 U.S. gallons or more of <br /> oil into or upon the navigable waters of the United States or adjoining shorelines and (2) <br /> a discharge of oil in "harmful quantities,"as defined in 40 CFR 110.3, into or upon the <br /> navigable waters of the United States or adjoining shorelines. Per 40 CFR 110.3, the <br /> term "harmful quantity"encompasses discharges that (1) violate local water quality <br /> standards, (2) produce a sheen upon or discoloration of the surface of the water or <br /> adjoining shoreline, and/or (3) cause a sludge or emulsion to be deposited beneath the <br /> surface of the water or upon adjoining shorelines. <br /> Swale. A swale is a low tract of land, especially one that is moist or marshy. The term <br /> can refer to a natural landscape feature or a human-created one. Artificial swales are <br /> often infiltration basins designed to manage water runoff, filter pollutants, and increase <br /> rainwater infiltration, and can be also referred to as a liquid recapture pond.. <br /> Tank. A stationary device designed to contain an accumulation of regulated <br /> substances and constructed of non-earthen materials (concrete, steel, plastic) that <br /> provide structural support. (40 CFR 279. 1) <br /> Underground Storage Tank (UST). Refers to any one or a combination of tanks <br /> (including underground pipes connected thereto) that is used to contain an <br /> accumulation of regulated substances, and the volume of which (including the volume <br /> underground pipes connected thereto) is 10 percent or more beneath the surface of the <br /> ground. This term does not include any tank used for storing heating oil for <br /> consumptive purposes, septic tank, stormwater or wastewater collection system, or <br /> storage tanks situated in an underground area if the storage tank is situated upon or <br /> above the surface of the floor. (40 CFR 280.12) <br /> Used Oil. Any oil that has been refined from crude oil or any synthetic oil that has been <br /> used and as a result of such use is contaminated by physical or chemical impurities (40 <br /> CFR 279. 1) <br /> Used Oil Generator. Any person, by site, whose act or process produces used oil or <br /> whose act first causes used oil to become subject to regulation per 40 CFR 279. 1. <br /> 60 <br />
