Chevron U SA
Page i
10 INTRODUCTION
This report summarizes Dames & Moore's observations of the soil aeration
at Chevron Service Station Number 9-6155, located at Highway 99 and Morada Lane in
Stockton, California (Plate 1, Vicinity Map) This report has been prepared by Dames
& Moore at the request of Chevron U.S A.
2 0 PROJECT OVERVIEW
The subject property was developed as a Chevron Service Station until it was
razed in 1986. All underground piping and fuel storage tanks were removed at that
time Woodward Clyde Consultants prepared an environmental assessment report for
Chevron U SA. dated September 2, 1988 The report concluded that shallow soil (20
and 30 feet below grade) at the site contained minor levels of petroleum constituents
and that the chemical quality of the groundwater was not known
The Environmental Health Division of the San Joaquin County Health Services
required that Chevron U S A. conduct further studies of the site to assess the extent
of soil contamination by gasoline related petroleum On behalf of Chevron U S A,
Dames & Moore prepared a workplan for the installation of groundwater monitoring wells
at the property, dated March 12, 1989. Upon completion of the study outlined in the
workplan, Dames & Moore released a summary report on August 31, 1989 The report
concluded that residual petroleum contamination was generally limited to the upper 20
feet of the soil horizon It was also concluded that groundwater, encountered at a
depth of about 71 feet below grade, did not contain detectable concentrations of
petroleum hydrocarbons
• 15000.250-044
MOORE
