Chevron U.S.A.
Page 5
4.0 REMEDIAL PLAN
The plan for remediation of site soils was outlined in
Dames & Moore' s proposed remedial action plan of September
15, 1989. The plan as it was approved by the San Joaquin
Department of Health, Environmental Health Division consisted
of the removal of contaminated soil in the upper 20 feet of
soil and sediment. A discrete excavation was to be centered
on each of the three previously existing dispenser islands.
Field screening of the soils exposed in the excavations was
proposed as a means of directing the excavation efforts.
On completion of the excavations, soil samples were to
• be obtained as directed by the county representative, who was
present at the site. Samples were taken to evaluate the
concentrations of any potentially remaining petroleum
hydrocarbons. Excavated petroleum contaminated soils were to
be spread in lifts and aerated. Aerated souls were to be
periodically composite-sampled and chemically analyzed to
evaluate the presence of remaining petroleum. Treated soil
was to be spread over the site or removed from the property.
However, at the request of the Central Valley Regional Water
Quality Control Board, treated soil was to be used to
backfill excavations.
16000-250-044
Corrected
D INIoURE
