_ x r--W. tea.
- Y
4s•
Chevron U.S.A. - Page 8
Each well head was surveyed to establish the surface elevation to a common
benchmark, The survey was utilized in helping to evaluate accurate ground water
surface elevations for ground water gradient and flow assessment.
6.0 GEOLOGIC AND HYDROLOGIC SETTIHG
Based upon review of readily available published data, a geologic and
hydrologic setting has been developed for the subject site area.
6.I _Geola is Settin
The subject property is located near Stockton, within the San Joaquin Valley
which constitutes the southern portion of the Great Valley Geomorphic Province.
{
...The Great Valley is a topographic and structural basin bounded on the east by the
Sierra •Nevada, a fault block dipping gently southwestward. The Sierra Nevada is
M composed of igneous and metamorphic rocks of
pre-Tertiery age which comprise the
' basement complex beneath the valley. The Coast Ranges contain folded and faulted
sedimentary rocks of Mesozoic and Cenozoic age, which are similar to those rocks
that underlie the Valley at depth, and nonconformably overlie the basement
complex.
Basement rocks in the Valley are overlain by Cretaceous and early Tertiary
aged marine sedimentary rocks. The marine sediments attain thicknesses in excess
Of 15,000 feet (Page, 1986) . Ground water associated with the marine sediments is
_ ... ...
considered brackish; and is not
generally associated with significant. ground
water production.
DANiEs & ATOORE
