20 March 1996
' AGE-NC Project No. 95-0108
_ Page 5 of 7
are illustrated on Figure 2.
3.7. EXCAVATION'OF HYDROCARBON-IMPACTED SOIL, NOVEMBER 1994
On 29 November 1994, approximately 100 cubic yards of impacted soil was excavated from the
western portion of the former UST area under the direction of GAS. Excavated soil was stockpiled
adjacent to the excavation.
A total of five soil samples were collected from the floor and sidewalls of the excavation. Samples
were collected using a metric soil sample pre-loaded with two clean 2- by 3-inch brass sleeves. Upon
' collection, the ends of the leading brass sleeve were covered, ith aluminum sheets, capped and.sealed
N-6th tape. The samples were placed in"a chilled container and transported under chain-of-custody to
McCampbell Analytical, Inc. (MAI) of Pacheco, California. All soil samples were analyzed for TPH-d
in accordance with EPA method 8015.
TPH-d was detected in the sample collected from the west wall (WW-1; 28 feet) at a concentration
of 14,000 ppm. Petroleum hydrocarbons were not detected.in the other samples collected on 29
November 1994. Analytical results of soil samples are included in Table 4. The laboratory report
' (MAI Lab ID 42669 to 42673) and chain-of-custody included in Appendix C.
' 3.8. STOCKPILED SOIL SAMPLING, APRIL 1995
On 14 April 1995, a representative of AGE collected ten soil samples from the soil stockpile on site.
' Soil samples were collected using a metric soil sample pre-loaded with two clean 2- by 3-inch brass
sleeves. Upon collection, the ends of the lead brass sleeve were covered with aluminum sheets,
capped and sealed with tape. The samples were placed in a chilled container and transported under
' cliain-of-custody to MAI. The stockpile samples were composited by MAI into five samples for
analysis of TPH-d and BTE&X:
' TPH-d was detected in each sample at concentrations as high as 1,110 ppm. Low concentrations of
toluene and xylenes were also detected in the stockpile soil samples. Analytical results are
summarized in Table 4. The laboratory report (MAI Lab ID 51728 to 51732) and chain-of-custody
are included in Appendix D.
3.9, EXCAVATION OF HYDROCARBON-IMPACTED SOIL, APRIL 1995
' On 25 April 1995, additional hydrocarbon-impacted soil was excavated from the former UST area
under the supervision of AGE. Four soil samples were collected from the floor and sidewalls of the
