1
. GEOLOGIC CONTROL
Splits of all samples will be logged for geologic and
hydrologic character under the Unified Sail Classification system
and U.S. Bureau of Mines rock color chart . A continuous geologic
log of cuttings will be made as they come off the soil boring
auger . These logs will be plotted as graphic and descriptive logs
at a scale of 1 inch equal to 10 feet .
QUALITY CONTROL
' All sampling equipment and tools will be decontaminated on
site before each boring and rinsate contained in visqueen ponds
for evaporation or disposal . All sample collection devices will
' be steam cleaned or washed in Tri Sodium Phosphate and double
rinsed in clean water . If there is vapor detectable levels of
contamination in the rinsate the rinsate will be contained in DOT
55 gallon drums and manifested to a hazardous waste disposal
' facility. If no detectable contamination exists in the rinsate
then the rinsate will be allowed to evaporate and the residue
transported with the contaminated soil to a HWMU.
' Duplicate (bottom and middle tube in the spit spoon sample)
samples will be taken at 10 foot depth in soil boring 1 and 15
foot depth in soil boring 2. In addition 1 trip blank will be run
for every 20 samples (5%) and one field blank before the last
sample on every sampling day in which more than one boring is
completed . This check sampling is in addition to the lab method
blanks and surrogate sampling .
MONITOR WELL CONSTRUCTION
Should soil borings be converted into monitoring wells they
will be constructed in accordance with LUFT guidelines. The
included diagrams show the specifics of typical well to be
' constructed in isolated or traffic areas.
The monitoring wells will be used as piezometer and initial
water sample collection wells unless a formal monitoring schedule
is required . The screen intervals will be 15 feet unless
' confining zones are encountered within the proposed screen
interval . In this case screen intervals will be reduced to 5 feet
with three feet being below and two feet above the water table.
As with the soil borings the drill cuttings from the well
construction will be screened with an OVA and containerized in
DOT drums for appropriate disposal later .
' PROJECT TIME FRAME
The historical review should take about 1 day to complete .
' The first round of soil borings should be completed in two days
• if the borings are not converted to wells.
' S
' T & T EARTH SERVICES
