lie
PIT BOTTOM SOIL BORING
One soil boring will be taken near the center of the tank
pit . This will be done by cutting a ramp into the south end of
' the pit wall . The wall material will be pushed into the pit to
create a ramp for the drill to enter the pit .
Soil samples will be taken at 5 and 10 feet beneath the original
tank pit bottom. Actual depth below ground surface will be about
18 feet . These samples will be screened with the OVA and if the
split spoon samples show less than .5 ppm increase over ambient
' levels then the boring shall end and backfilled as outlined for
the perimeter sail boring . If the sample shows in excess of .5
ppm increase over ambient the boring and sampling will continue
' to 30 feet in depth .
SPOILS SAMPLING
' The existing spoils an site will be sampled in three
locations. These samples will be taken with a one inch sail probe
to a depth three feet into the spoils pile. These samples will be
handled and analyzed as prescribed for the soil boring samples.
SAMPLE SCREENING
A Century 128-GC Organic Vapor Analyzer (FID) will be used
to monitor and screen samples and soil borings.
The Organic Vapor Analyzer will be calibrated to zero air
and 95 ppm methane at the beginning of the work and recalibrated
daily to zero air after 20 minutes warmup , at noon and at the
completion of each days work and the results logged.
' SOIL BORING CUTTINGS
All soil cuttings from drilling will be checked with the OVA
' and contained in coverer! DOT 55 gallon drums until appropriately
disposed of. Disposal of uncontaminated cuttings will be done in
the excavated tank pit during backfilling . Contaminated cuttings
' will be manifested and transported to an appropriate hazardous
waste management unit (HWMU) .
' SAMPLE HANDLING AND ANALYSIS
All samples will be taken and handled in accordance with
' LUFT guidelines and will be transported in the appropriate sample
containers @ WC to Chemwest Laboratories in Sacramento ,
(certificate #1505) , that day.
Based on baseline sampling done by SJC-EHD which shows no
action level gasoline (STEX ) contamination, the samples will be
run for TPH-Diesel (extractable) . In addition organic lead will
be run on the first round of sampling as a precautionary measure.
;V
4 J f
T & T EARTH SERVICES
