Stockton, CA 95202 <br /> 209/468-3420 :# <br /> SEP 2 5 X997. . <br /> To Whom It May Concern <br /> ANALYSIS REQUIRED FOR OXYGENATE COMPOUNDS <br /> San Joaquin County Public Health Services;Environmental Health Division (PHSIEHD) is under <br /> Local Oversight Program (LOP) contract with the CaEifomia State Water Resources Control <br /> Board (SWRCS) to provide oversight for the'investigation and cleanup of unauthorized releases <br /> from underground storage tanks. This contract includes a provision for technical support by the <br /> Califomia Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board (CVRWQCS). <br /> PHSIEHD has recently received a letter from the CVRWQCS that provides guidance on how to <br /> analyze for the oxygenated compounds in gasoline until a "definitive protocol" can be <br /> established. Based on this letter, PHSIEHD is directing you to analyze samples from all of <br /> your monitoring wells for Tertiary Butyl Aicohbi (TSA), Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether(MTBE), Di- <br /> isopropyl ether (DIPS), Ethyl Tertiary Butyl Ether (ETRE) and Tertiary-Amyl Methyl Ether <br /> (TAME) by EPA method 8250_ PHSIEHD will requir4',analysis of samples for Methanol and <br /> Ethanol where there is reason to believe that these compounds were stored in the underground <br /> tank(s). <br /> PHSIEHD requires quarterly sampling of all wells where the presence of oxygenates is <br /> confirmed by EPA method 8260. Modification or"this required sampling such as number of wells <br /> sampled, sampling frequency and method of,analysis may be granted only after initial sample <br /> results are reviewed by PHS/Er'-ID.
