Brown and Caldwell C is leased to submit
 ) p
U
this work plan for soil vapor extraction well installation and soil vapor extraction
(SVE) and air sparge (AS) pilot tests at the subject site (Figure 1).
Groundwater beneath the site has been impacted by petroleum hydrocarbons and
" U associated fuel oxygenates. Groundwater monitoring data indicate methyl-tertiary
butyl ether (MtBE) and total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-g) are the
primary constituents of concern and the plume has been horizontally defined in
F the Subsurface Investigation Results and Site Conceptual Model dated
June 28, 2004.
f The work proposed in this workplan will be conducted in two phases. The first
phase of work will consist of the installation of two SVE wells to be used in the
SVE pilot test. The second phase of work will consist of a SVE and AS pilot
Ll testing using the new SVE wells (VEW-1 and VEW--2) and monitoring well
MW-1.
In SVE, a vacuum is placed on soil in the non-saturated zone. SVE technology
serves to volatilize contaminants to the vapor phase and remove these vapor phase
contaminants from the subsurface. Once the vapor is removed from the soil it is
cleaned by either thermal, catalytic oxidation, or granular activated carbon (GAC),
dependant on the concentration of hydrocarbons in the effluent from the blower.
The purpose of this pilot test is to determine the concentration of hydrocarbons in
irr the vapor removed from the soil, the radius of influence (ROI) of the SVE well,
{ and which SVE treatment technology is best suited for use on the site.
PA28000\128253-T&1'Trucking SVE\Work Plan s e 2.doc
r
Environmental Engine e r s e✓ Consultants
L
