I r-
Mr. Michael Infurna
October 24, 2005
Page 2
I +
In air sparging, pressurized air is injected into the saturated water-bearing zone of
an aquifer. Air sparging as a site remediation technology serves to volatilize
contaminants from the liquid to vapor phase, and provide oxygen (0 for biologic
activity and microorganism growth. The purpose of this pilot test is to determine
the ROI for AS and the concentration of O2 in groundwater in surrounding wells.
PHASE I
E The purpose of the new extraction well VEW-1 will be to extract petroleum
E hydrocarbons from the soil and groundwater in the source area of the
hj { groundwater plume, thereby reducing constituent mass. The purpose of the new
 extraction well VEW-2 will be to determine the ROI from VEW-1. The results
will be used in the design of an interim remediation measure, as part of a final
L remediation plan.
To accomplish these objectives, the following tasks will be completed:
I,
• advance an 8-inch diameter hollow stem auger boring for VEW-1 to a depth
f of approximately 60 feet (ft) below ground surface {bgs), approximately
1 10 ft east of MW-1 as shown on Figure 2;
• advance an 8-inch diameter hollow stem auger boring for VEW-2 to a depth
of 60 ft bgs,approximately 20 ft southeast of VEW-1 as shown on
Figure 2;
place a 3-inch diameter schedule 40 polyvinyl chloride (PVC) casing with
0.020-inch slot screen in each borehole with construction details as shown in
Table 1;
* place cuttings into Department of Transportation (DOT) approved 55-gallon
drums or a lined roll-off container,
• survey the well locations using a licensed land surveyor; and
• characterize and coordinate disposal of investigation derived waste.
E
G
P:\28000\128253-T&T Trucking SVE\Work Plan sve 2.doc
