Mr Michael Infurna
July 14, 2005
Page 4
' SCOPE OF WORK
The scope of work for this site will be completed in accordance with Industry
' accepted standards and protocols, and BC Standard Operating Procedures
provided in Appendix A (compact disk)
Drilling Activities. BC will subcontract with a California-licensed well-drilling
company to install the new extraction wells according to San Joaquin County
protocols and California Well Standards It is anticipated that the County
inspectors will be present to observe and approve grouting
The boreholes for VEW-1 and VEW-2 will be advanced to a depth of 100 and
60 ft bgs, respectively The total depth of the well will be determined in the field
based upon the soil stratigraphy, however, it is anticipated that VEW-1 will be
completed to 100 ft bgs with 80 ft of 6-mch diameter screen, and VEW-2 will be
' completed to 60 ft bgs with 40 ft of 3-inch diameter screen
Soil samples will be collected in a split spoon sampler every 5 ft for lithology from
the boring for VEW-2 Dry soil samples will be screened using a photoionization
detector (PID) to determine the presence of any hydrocarbons
Sampling and Analytical Activities Groundwater samples shall be collected
from MW-1 and newly installed VEW-1, prior to startup of the SVE and AS
system and after completion of the pilot test The samples will be prepared for
' shipment under proper chain-of-custody to a California-certified hazardous-
materials laboratory for analysis The groundwater samples will be analyzed for
TPH-g, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX, and fuel oxygenates
' using Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Method 8260B under standard
turn-around time schedule This data will be reported using an electronic data
delivery system compatible with the California Regional Water Quality Control
' Board (RWQCB) Database (GeoTracker) requirements
SVE System Installation. The SVE pilot test will be performed by installing a
' catalytic oxidizer (aat-ox) soil vapor extraction blower and associated piping on
Site The cat-ox system will consist of a vapor/hquid separator, a blower, and a
combustion chamber with catalyst The cat-ox system will be trailer or skid
mounted and will be transported to site as a complete unit The water created
from the vapor/hquid separator will be pumped into a 55-gallon drum for storage
' AS System Installation. The AS pilot test will be performed by installing an air
compressor and associated hoses on site The air compressor will be used to
provide air for a pipe in MW-1 which will release air into the groundwater
' P\28(1()0\128251- 1&1 1 rucking SVT\Wort.Plan SN e doc
