Third Quarter 1996 Groundwater Monitoring&Remediation Status Report
Moore Petroleum, 14800 W Frontage Rd,Manteca,CA
November 1, 1996
Page 2
GROUNDWATER MONITORING
Groundwater Levels
On August 27, 1996, Apex personnel collected groundwater-level measurements from monitoring
wells MW-1 through MW-9 (Figure 2) All groundwater elevations were measured to the nearest
0 01 foot, referenced to the surveyed top-of-casing elevations and conducted according to the
Apex Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)included as Appendix A Groundwater level
measurements collected since April 1992 are summarized in Table 1 Figure 3 is a potentiometrnc
surface map of the shallow water-bearing zone on August 27, 1996
Groundwater Sampling and Analysis
On August 27, 1996, Apex personnel collected groundwater samples from monitoring wells MW-
1 through MW-9 The station's domestic well (DM-1)was unaccessible at this tune and was
sampled on September 10, 1996 All samples were submitted, under chain-of-custody, to Sparger
Technology, Inc , of Sacramento, California, a state-certified analytical laboratory All samples
were collected according to the Apex SOP included in Appendix A The groundwater samples
from the nine monitoring wells and the domestic well were analyzed for total petroleum
hydrocarbons (TPH), as gasoline, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes(BTEX) by
EPA Method 8020/8015 and for 1,2 Dichloroethane(EDC)by EPA Method 601 Groundwater
samples collected from monitoring wells MW-1 through MW-4 and DM-1 were analyzed for
TPH, as diesel, by EPA Method 8015 Modified The groundwater samples collected from MW-1
and MW-5 through MW-9 were analyzed for methyl-tert-butyl-ether(MTBE)by EPA Method
8020 Analyses were chosen as per San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division direction
Groundwater samples collected from monitoring well MW-3 had detectable concentrations of
TPH, as diesel, and groundwater samples collected from monitoring wells MW-7 and MW-9 had
detectable concentrations of MTBE On September 18, 1996, monitoring well MW-3 was
resampled and reanalyzed for TPH, as diesel, by EPA Method 8015 Modified Monitoring wells
MW-7 and MW-9 were resampled and reanalyzed for MTBE by EPA Method 8260 The results
of these sampling events are summarized in Table 2 The most recent laboratory analytical
reports and chain-of-custody forms are included in Appendix B
Vapor Extraction Remediation System Status
In early 1995, Emcon installed a soil vapor extraction system consisting of a Remediation Service,
Int'l Spray Aeration Vapor Extraction (S A V E ) system at the subject site The vapor extraction
system was installed per San Joaquin Valley Unified Air Pollution Control District (SJVUAPCD)
• permit conditions The vapor extraction system consists of an internal combustion engine with
