Hwy 99
Manteca, CA
On October 27, 2005, San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department(EHD)staff made
an inspection at the above referenced facility. At the time of the inspection EHD staff observed
that the septic system serves more than 20 people per day. Since ground water is a source of
drinking water, subsurface waste disposal is regulated under the United States Safe Drinking
Water Act.
EHD has implemented a Local Agency Groundwater Protection/Underground Injection Control
(UIC)Program in accordance with guidelines prepared by the United States Environmental
Protection Agency(USEPA). The primary focus of the program is to protect drinking water by
identification and evaluation of subsurface disposal of waste fluids that may lead to the
degradation of drinking water supplies.
Septic systems that serve more than 20 people per day are defined as shallow injection wells so
your facility has been placed on the EHD list of UIC sites. If your septic system serves fewer than
20 persons per day it is not a shallow injection well and is not subject to being placed on
inventory, so please notify EHD if this is the case. In addition, please provide EHD with a
description of your method of storm water disposal and construction details on any dry wells or
sumps used for storm water disposal. Following review of the information submitted, EHD may
request modifications to wastewater disposal activities at your site.
Enclosed is an "Inventory of Injection Wells"form to be completed and submitted to:
U S Environmental Protection Agency
Ground Water Office (WTR-9) UIC Inventory
75 Hawthorne Street
San Francisco CA 94105-3109
Please submit a copy of the form to EHD with the information requested above.
If you have any questions contact me at(209)468-3449.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Department
—n-kqta
Margaret Lagorio, Supervising REHS
Unit IV
Enc
