The accidental spill was located 40 feet <br /> north of building number 100 whirh is wpEt of the El Dorpdo O'er Pass' <br /> SCENE: <br /> Chemical spill consisted of approximately -100 gallons of copper plating <br /> solution and covered an area of 12 feet by 18 feet, directly north of the <br /> facility fence- � <br /> � <br /> CAUSE, <br /> The spill was started by a transfer pump hose which accidentally became <br /> loose from its clamp device at the edge of the transfer tank and fell to the <br /> ground. This enabled the gasoline pump unit to pump the copper solution on the <br /> ground at a rate of 45gallons per minute. <br /> � <br /> STATEMENT: <br /> An employee working at the transfer location noticed the spill and shut off <br /> the pump unit' He then replaced the hose back into the transfer tank to avoid <br /> further spillage <br /> The Plant Manager was notified and a Spillage Response Team was assembled to <br /> clean up the spill. The spill was contained in some tire depressions in a <br /> road-way located just north of the fence behind bldg 1010' Individuals of the <br /> Response Team reversed the pump unit and started pumping the spill from off <br /> the ground and back into the transfer tank, while others moved a 1 1/2 yard <br /> dumpster into piace any started snoveiiing the cnemical reszoue ano surface <br /> soil into the dumpsterf' <br /> After the location of the spill had been cleaned of the chemical residue. The <br /> (2) , 1 1/2 yard dumpst rs were stored for later manifesting and transporting <br /> to a Class (1) Disposal Site. Due to the length of time involved in the clean- <br /> -up and the hour of the day' It was agreed upon to make all notifications on <br /> 20 Mar 87. <br /> NOTIFICATION: � <br /> On 20 Mar 87 at 0900 hos, the undersigned notified the City of Stockton Envir- <br /> -onmental Control Department. A Control Officer, Larry Williams advised that <br /> under the Prop 65 law, chemical spills must also be reported to the San <br /> Joaquin County Department of Environment Health. <br /> Page 1 of 2 <br />
