20 Mar 87
CITY OF STOCKTON
On 20 Mar 87 at 1015 h s, the SJC Department of Environmental Health was
contacted and so advis d. At 1100 hrs a Mr. Dan Moe made an or, site inspection
of the spill location. Dan Moe requested that (4) soil samples be taken at (4)
different locations, within approximately 8-10 feet of each other. And that
due to the weather, he further, requested that the area of spill be covered.
On 20 Mar 87 at 1530 hrs, John Gustafson from Canonie Environmental arrived at
the scene to extract t e soil samples. At this time Dan Moe was also present
for the extracting of the soil samples. After, the samples were taken the area
of the spill was covered to the likes of both Stockton Plating and the County
of San Joaquin.
SUMMARY:
An accidental chemical spill occurred and was cleaned-up in a timely manner.
The device used to hold the pump hose in place was found riot to have enough
pressure to hold the hose in place for the desired length of time to complete
the transfer. Stockton Plating has since designed a clamping device to firmly
hold such a hose in future transfer operations.
The chemical spill was reported to all individuals concerned, as well as MSDS
sheets were supplied to all parties, so that the chemical could be better
identified. Request for all information, such as MSDS, soil samples and
building materials, were provided to both the City of Stockton and the County
of San Joaquin in a timely manner.
Stockton Plating has been advised by Canonis Environmental, that it will take
approximately 10 days f -r the sample results to return. At such time all
individuals concerned will be notified.
If you have any questions in regards to this letter, please contact the
undersigned at (209) 943-1101.
L r.
Robert E.
