Falcon Energy Associates was retained by Zuckerman - Mandeville, Inc. to effectuate
i
cleanup of the McDonald Island dump site located at 111 Zuckerman Rd., Stockton,
California. Cleanup operations initially commenced on July 8, 1993, and continued for
approximately 1/2 day. On September 29, 1993, work began again and continued until
December 7, 1994 when work was halted due to the wet soil conditions on the island.
Work began again on May 25, 1994 and was completed on June 28, 1994.
The site measures approximately 200 feet x 900 feet and consists of approximately 4.1
acres. Approximately 1500 tons of solid waste, consisting of agricultural waste
products and household refuse, has been cleared from the site. Agricultural waste
includes: fumigation plastic, scrap metal, lumber, sod, cardboard, tires, batteries, water
tanks, concrete, various empty containers, tractor parts and irrigation pipe. Household
waste includes: paper, plastic and aluminum packaging materials, batteries, aerosol
containers and clothing.
r
Most of the waste material was located on the surface of the ground, however, a portion
of the material was excavated from the trench that forms the eastern boundary of the
site. Soil and debris from the trench was mechanically sorted utilizing a two inch on
center vibrating screen. Clean soil was returned to the trench and compacted and
debris that was determined to be non-hazardous was loaded into 40 yard containers
that were provided by Waste Management of Stockton. Full containers were picked up
by Waste Management and taken to the Commercial Salvage facility in Stockton,
located at 2435 E. Weber Ave. At Commercial Salvage the containers were unloaded,
sorted and reloaded then transported to The Harney Way Landfill, at 17916 E. Harney
Lane, Lodi, California.
Material that was suspected of exhibiting hazardous characteristics or required
additional analysis was placed in a hazardous materials containment area.
