RIPON FARM SERVICE,
938 FRONTAGE ROAD, RIPON, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
The City of Ripon maintains municipal wpter supply well No. 12, which contains elevated
concentrations of nitrogen and is about Ob feet west of Ripon Farm Service. Ripon Farm
Service handles nitrogen fertilizers and has an on-site domestic supply well which also
contains elevated concentrations of nitrogen. The City of Ripon suspects that Ripon Farm
Service has contributed nitrogen to its municipal supply well. Therefore, Ripon Farm Service
is conducting a subsurface investigation to answer the following questions: 1) Has there been
a release of nitrogen from Ripon Farm Service's facility to groundwater? 2) If there has been
a release, has nitrogen from Ripon Farm Service entered City of Ripon's municipal well
No. 12? 3) If a release from Ripon Farm Service has entered the municipal supply well, what
portion of nitrogen in Well No. 12 is attributable to Ripon Farm Service?
Recent investigative reports include the following:
• 28 September 2006 Summary of Groundwater Sampling Data by Genesis Engineering &
Redevelopment
• 2 October 2006 Quarterly Report— Third Quarter 2006 by Advanced GeoEnvironmental,
Inc.
• 27 October 2006 Limited Subsurface Investigation Repod by Advanced GeoEnvironmentU:,
Inc.
• 30 October 2006 Summary of Groundwater Sampling Data by Genesis Engineering &
Redevelopment
These reports were reviewed by Regional Water Quality Control Board (Regional Water
Board) staff as was the following work plan:
• 21 August 2006 Work Plan for Monitoring Well Installation prepared by Genesis
Engineering & Redevelopment, delivered via email 5 December 2006.
Investigation Results
Ripon Farm Service installed four shallow monitoring wells (screened interval between 20 and
40 feet below ground surface) in the operations area in 2005, and these wells have been
sampled at least six times over the past four quarters. All of these wells contain nitrate (as
California Environmental Protection Agency
Z11 Ke'err Iced Paper
