• Prepared this Workplan, describing the requested scope of services, the field quality
assurance/quality control(QA/QC)plan, and the sampling and laboratory procedures.
• Provide 48-hour notice to USA prior to job site mobilization.
• Retain the services of AGS, a Caltrans-approved sub-consultant to conduct a geophysical survey
at Locations 1 and 2 and clear proposed boring locations of potential buried utility conflicts.
• Retain the services of Advanced Technology Laboratories (ATL), a Caltrans-approved and
California-certified analytical laboratory,to perform the chemical analyses of soil samples.
• Retain the services of EMSL, a Caltrans-approved and California-certified analytical laboratory,
to perform the asbestos analyses of soil samples collected from Location 4.
Field Activities
Geophysical Survey
AGS will perform geophysical surveys using ground penetrating radar, radio frequency and magnetic
techniques at Locations 1 and 2 to identify anomalies associated with potential USTs, former tank
excavations and other buried structure locations. AGS will further clear each proposed boring location
for potential buried utility conflicts. Copies of utility clearance records and a map depicting buried
utilities and anomalies (if any) will be prepared by AGS and appended to our final site investigation
report.
Direct-push Soil Borings
Proposed direct-push boring locations are depicted on the Site Plan, Figure 2. Additional borings may
be performed at locations determined by the Caltrans TO Manger. The following summarizes the
proposed boring locations:
• At Location 1, three borings will be performed to a maximum depth of 20 feet at the former
UST locations. A total of five soil samples will be collected from each boring obtained at
4-foot intervals starting at a depth of 4 feet.
• At Location 2, five borings will be performed to a maximum depth of 4 feet spaced at equal
intervals along the frontage road. A total of three soil samples will be collected from each
boring obtained at 2-foot intervals starting at the surface.
• At Location 3, ten borings will be performed to a maximum depth of 16 feet at targeted and
randomly selected locations across the vacant parcel. A total of five soil samples will be
collected from each boring obtained at 4-foot intervals starting at the surface.
• At Location 4, ten borings will be performed to a maximum depth of 4 feet spaced at equal
intervals along the frontage road. A total of four soil samples will be collected from each
boring obtained at 1-foot intervals starting at a depth of one foot.
Soil samples will be collected using a hydraulically driven soil sampler equipped with acetate liners. The
sample tubes will be labeled and placed in a chilled ice chest for delivery to the laboratories following
chain-of custody(COC)protocol.
The borings will be logged under the direction of a California Professional Geologist(PG) and a CAC
for Location 4 using the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS) descriptions. Soil samples will be
Stockton State Route 99 improvement Project,Task Order No.82 Caltrans Contract 06A1141,EA 10-3A 1001
Project No.59200-06-82 -3 - December 30,2009
