Moving into the diesel shop from the oil changing area, waste batteries were observed. These batteries are <br />hauled off site and recy led. The waste batteries were the only type of hazardous waste stored inside the diesel <br />shop. <br />Mr. Dishman, Mr. Alland I then went outside of the diesel shop to the east, it is here that there are two <br />large aboveground stor ge tanks, a 20,000 gallon waste oil tank and a 20,000 gallon oil tank. Considerable <br />spillage on the ground Pn be observed below the tank pipe line termination, where hose lines are attached. <br />Moving north again w observed the wash rack facility and soap storage area. An aboveground soap tank <br />(containing caustics) is I located in this area. Some staining of the soil around the caustic tank, indicated <br />spillage of soap had oc4urred. Once again, oil staining was extensive between the tracks in this area. <br />After leaving the wash r ck facility we traveled by truck to the southern part of the rail yard to a maintenance <br />yard. At this location drums of diesel fuel are stored, as well as empty 55 gallon drums. Substantial soil <br />contamination was observed next to the diesel fuel storage drums. <br />Leaving themaintenan yard we then headed to the asbestos disposal area. A sign, "Hazardous Waste - Keep <br />Clear", was identifying he unfenced asbestos site. <br />After leaving the asbest s disposal site Mr. Allen, Mr. Dishman and I stopped at the RIP track maintenance <br />area and the motor freig t storage area. These areas were generally clean and well organized. Slight spillage <br />of diesel was apparent t the RIP track maintenance yard. The motor freight area ended our tour of the <br />facility. We then proce ded to jack Dishman's office to look at the manifest documents. <br />IX.
