Move a safe distance awa� from the spill in the upwind direction and warn others in the area of the actual or potential danger. <br />Primary Emergency Coordinat r: The Primary Emergency Coordinator will direct the following activities as appropriate to the <br />situation: <br />• Assess the situation inclu ing the potential hazard to human health or the environment. As necessary, contact emergency., <br />assistance providers (polil, fire, hospital) to obtain assistance (area evacuation, traffic control, fire fighting, etc.) <br />• Determine the extent of injuries and arrange for medical assistance, as necessary. <br />• Have properly trained pe onnel don protective equipment appropriate for handling the type of material spilled. <br />• Attempt to halt the flow o spilled material from the container, if still flowing (i.e. if drum is punctured and liquid if flowing <br />from the puncture, orient the drum such that the puncture is on top and the liquid no longer flows from the puncture, followed <br />by placement of the cont ' er into a containmeint vessel). <br />• Contain the spill to preve the spill from spreading using appropriate methods (absorbent, berms, etc.) <br />• As appropriate, notify the ate authorities to report the release. <br />• If possible, move other neA iby containers of materials away from the area of the spill — especially in cases where a container <br />may become damaged d g response activities. <br />• Place cleaned up waste an associated materials is appropriate containers with the necessary labels, pending off-site <br />management. <br />• If it is unsafe for personnel to attempt to clean up the spilled material, direct personnel to isolate the area, cease any operations <br />which may pose a hazard, ind call the Emergency Response Contractor listed in the Master Emergency Call list and/or dial <br />911 for additional assistance, as appropriate to the situation. <br />• Document all actions. <br />• Complete appropriate repots and notifications. <br />• Participate in media interviiews with onsite reporters only at the direction of the corporate communications officer and utilize a <br />previously prepared and internally approved text.
