PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICES
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DIVISION
Karen Furst, M.D., M.P.H., Health Officer
304 East Weber Avenue, Third Floor - Stockton, CA 95202 a
2091468-3420 FILE C
ALI sAHEH ALI JUL 3 01999
17717 E HWY 120
RIPON CA 95366
RE: Gubary Liquors SITE CODE: 1592
17717 E Hwy 120
Ripon CA 95366
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Services (PHS/EHD) has
reviewed the "Work Plan, Preliminary Site Investigation" dated July 13, 1999 that was prepared
by Geological Technics Inc. (GTI) for the above referenced site and has the following
comments.
On March 17, 1999 three gasoline underground storage tanks (UST) were removed under
permit and inspection from the subject site. Upon analysis, soil samples collected from beneath
the tanks evidenced petroleum hydrocarbon contamination under the south end of tank#2. The
work plan proposes to investigate the vertical extent of this contamination with the advancement
of one soil boring to approximately 60 feet below surface grade (bsg). Soil samples will be
collected every five feet, and one grab groundwater sample will be collected after the boring
reaches the capillary fringe. The water sample and up to five soil samples will be submitted for
analysis. Please note that the acceptable detection limit for analysis of methyl tertiary butyl
ether (MTBE) is 5-10 parts per billion (ppb) in soil and .5-1.0 ppb in water.
The work plan states that prior to beginning the investigation, the former tank pit will be
backfilled. It is the recommendation of PHS/EHD that all soil stockpiles remaining on site be
used for this purpose.
The work plan as outlined above is approved. Please submit to PHS/EHD a well permit
application and required $89.00 permit fee, and proceed with scheduling the fieldwork. If you
have any questions or comments please call Lori Duncan at (209) 468-0337.
Donna Heran, RENS, Director
Environmental Health Division
.w`CA
Lori Duncan, REHS Margare agorio, RE
LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV Supervisor, Unit IV
cc: Mark List, CVRWQCB
Ray Kablanow, GTl
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
