There is an existing water well approximately 12-inches in diameter on the property. The time of well
construction predates Delta Pumps existence. Based on a recently recorded (03/30/98) downhole television
video, the well is constructed of riveted steel casing from 0 feet to approximately 206 feet below ground
surface (bgs). The well is open hole from approximately 206 feet bgs to the current bottom at approximately
218 feet bgs. The casing is apparently intact with no obvious breaks or offsets. Some scaling is apparent
throughout the casing length.
Use of the well prior to Delta Pumps existence is unknown. Delta Pumps installed an oil lubricated turbine
pump in this well and used the water to fill pump test facilities and for truck cooling systems. The well water
was so salty that the well was used for the pump testing facility only. Later (????), the oil lubricated turbine
pump was removed and a one horsepower submersible pump was installed.
Soil and Groundwater Testing and Results Summary
Sampling and testing of soil and groundwater has been conducted by Delta Pumps. The following list
summarizes these events:
1. Underground storage tank removal and associated soil sampling analyses (Results dated 01/12/89).
San Joaquin County Health District inspected (we recall Dan Moe as the inspector) the tank removal
and soil sampling efforts. No contaminated soil was noted during tank removal. The laboratory report
for soil samples collected on January 3, 1989 from the tank excavation indicated total lead at 8 mg/kg
and toluene at 23 µg/kg. No other BTEX or EDB detections were noted.
2. Soil samples collected under the east end of the main building (sampled 08/17/93). Samples were
collected by GeoAnalytical Laboratories, Inc., as subcontracted by Thorpe Oil Company. Based on
drawings and analytical reports, all samples were collected from approximately four (4) feet bgs
beneath the building. The area was divided into four subareas. Soil in each subarea was sampled from
three locations. The three individual soil samples from each subarea were composited so that each
subarea had one composite soil sample. The composited soil samples were analyzed for 17 Metals and
PC Oil & Grease, according to the laboratory invoice.
3. Existing well groundwater sample collected (sampled 09/29/93). The laboratory report for EPA
Method 502.2 indicated 4.0µg/L chloroform and 5.3µg/L toluene present in the groundwater sample
from the existing well. No other EPA Method 502.2 analytes were detected.
4. Existing well groundwater sample collected (sampled 03/24/94). Initial laboratory report dated
04/12/94 indicated non-detect for EPA Method 8020 (BTEX). Amended laboratory report dated
04/15/94 indicated 11µg/L benzene and non-detect for remaining EPA Method 8020 constituents. The
reason for the amended laboratory report is unknown. The laboratory Report dated 04/12/94 indicated
non-detect for TPH-Gas.
5. The well was aerated and groundwater sampled on 11/24/94. The laboratory report indicated non-
detect for EPA Method 8020{BTEX). The purge water collected in a holding tank was also sampled
on 11/24/94 and analyzed for EPA Method 8020(BTEX). The laboratory report indicated non-detect
for the holding tank water.
CAPROJECTS\Delta Pumps\splrslts.tlr Page 2 of 9
