The proposal to conduct the test was approved by EHD on
May 7, 2003.
Multiple rate pumping tests were conducted on the 6-inch PVC extraction well and the
conclusion included in the Report stated that `pump test results suggested that
extraction well EW-1 was not able to sustain a pumping rate of 2 GPM(gallons per
minute) after approximately 60 minutes of continuous pumping operation"and the well
dewatered at rates higher than 2 GPM. Recommendations included in the report stated
that ground water extraction (GWE) was a feasible remediation option for removal of
hydrocarbon-impacted ground water at the site and that an additional GWE well should
be installed —100 feet to the northeast.
EHD has evaluated the ground water plume at this site and determined that offsite
migration is a major concern. In addition to removing the dissolved petroleum
constituents from the ground water, EHD required that the plume's migration be
controlled and dissolvedl petroleum not be allowed to move offsite and continue to
degrade the ground water quality down gradient to the north east, across Pacific
Avenue.
Data included in the Report indicated that even low volume pumping rates were
unsustainable in EW-1 and these low rates did not substantially influence the ground
water at nearby monitoring wells measured during the pump tests. Based on low
pumping rates and lack of substantial influence on the ground water and its migration,
EHD cannot concur with AGE that GWE would be a feasible remedial option at this time.
