' Prior to drilling at each borehole, all augers will be thoroughly steam cleaned. The split
' spoon sampler and brass sampling tube inserts will be cleaned prior to each sampling event
with a non-phosphate detergent scrubbing followed by a water rinse, and a final distilled
water rinse. Boreholes will be logged and soil samples will be obtained by using a modified
' California sampler under the direction of TT's field geologist. Soils will be described using
the visual method of the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS). Sampling methods will
' include grab samples for soil description and examination as well as samples in
decontaminated brass tubes for laboratory analysis. Samples will be obtained of vadoze zone
' soils every five feet until the borings have reached design depth. After sampling, the boring
will be sealed with a betonite grout
Each sample recovered, as well as representative drill cuttings will be screened for the release
' of volatile organic contaminants with an organic vapor analyzer equipped with a
photoionization detector. The calibration of this instrument will be confirmed by the field
geologist each day prior to use. Upon sample extraction, brass tube ends will be immediately
sealed with aluminium foil and fitted with end caps to prevent the loss of volatile compounds.
Each tube will be placed in a separate ziploc bag and sealed with security tape. Samples will
tbe stored in a chilled ice chest and delivered to a California Department of Health Services
(DHS) certified laboratory for chemical analysis. Proper chain of custody procedures will be
followed. A chain of custody fort and request for analysis form will accompany the samples
at all times.
' Soils produced during the drilling will be placed in drums and stored on site, pending
analytical results. After receipt of analytical results have been received, they will be disposed
' properly.
' 3.3 Groundwater Sampling
After installation of the monitoring well, it will be properly developed by purging until water
' clarity is established. Groundwater samples will be taken for analysis using a pre-cleaned
disposable bailer. Samples will be transferred to pre-cleaned glass bottles for shipment to a
' DHS certified laboratory for analysis. Bottles will be placed in a ziploc bag and sealed with
security tape. Samples will be stored in a chilled ice chest awaiting shipment to a DHS
' certified laboratory for analysis.
' MZ(11-01-91/ENGP9476 3
