' REPORT
• QUARTERLY GROUNDWATER MONITORING
1 FOURTH QUARTER—OCTOBER 2000
Canepa's Car Wash
' 6230 Pacific Avenue
Stockton, California
tJanuary 17, 2001
1
1.0 INTRODUCTION
' Condor Earth Technologies, Inc (Condor) conducted quarterly groundwater monitoring on October 12,
2000, at the Canepa's Car Wash facility located at 6230 Pacific Avenue in Stockton, California(Figure I,
Appendix A) This report was prepared by Condor at the request of the property owner, Mr Remo
' Canepa
The scope-of-work performed during the quarterly groundwater monitoring event is described in
Condor's Proposal for Site Evaluation and Groundwater Monitoring (April 8, 1996) The scope-of-work
presented in the proposal was approved by Mr Ronald Rowe of the San Joaquin County Public, Health
Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) The PHS/EHD subsequently modified the
. approved scope-of-work to include gasoline oxygenates/additives analyses of the site groundwater
samples This report includes site background information, a description of the fieldwork and laboratory
analyses performed for the October 2000 quarterly groundwater monitoring event, discussion of results,
soil vapor extraction (SVE) system maintenance data as requested by Mr Rowe of PHS/EHD, and
recommendations
2.0 SITE BACKGROUND
Canepa's Car Wash consists of an automated car washing facility, a fuel station, and a convenience store
(Figure 2, Appendix A) The car wash and fuel station have been in operation for more than two decades
In the spring of 1993, three underground storage tanks (USTs), fuel lines and dispensers were removed
and replaced with a double walled system The former USTs consisted of two 12,000-gallon gasoline
USTs and one 5,000-gallon diesel UST Upon removal of the USTs and piping, it was discovered that the
fuel lines had leaked and that the USTs had been overfilled Approximately 600 cubic yards of soil were
removed from the UST excavation area
Beginning in March 1993, one soil boring and a network of nine SVE wells were drilled and installed in
the area of the fuel dispenser islands Between September 1993 and March 1994, eight monitoring wells
(MW-1 through MW-8) were installed In March, 1994, a SVE system was installed and operated In the
Fall of 1996, it was determined that the SVE system was inadequate and operation of the system was
terminated A second SVE system was later installed and began operation on March 15, 1999
Condor has conducted quarterly groundwater monitoring activities at the site since August 1996 Analyses
• of groundwater samples collected from the SVE wells (SV-I through 9) indicate that high concentrations of
benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, and total xylenes (BTEX), total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as
I k
C CONDOR
