Vicki McCartne EH
From: Adrienne Ellsaesser[EH]
Sent: Wednesday, October 31, 2012 11:33 AM I
To: 'tcuellar@advgeoenv.com'
Cc: Vicki McCartney [EH]; John Yoakum ]EH]; !Nuel Henderson [EH]
Subject: CMT destruction
Tim,
I understand the cost issue. But. . .We both know the CMT will be wrapping around the auger
and the well will not be drilled out to full depth. Our county's first experience with
n a CMT was b grouting and over drilling, as you are proposing. Only the upper
destroying Y g g
20 feet of the 150' well was destroyed as the CMT wrapped around the auger.
Vicki has informed me that this is a vacant lot. This is a perfect site to use 100 grains
of detonation cord in the center channel to blow the CMT apart. Please make arrangements
to install the det cord, pressure grout, blast, then over drill the well. This should
also help protect the drill rig from being damaged while trying to drill the CMT out.
i
A 15 inch auger was used at Flag City along with explosives and the auger still missed the
well in areas, but long mangled pieces of the CMT were removed. Over all, better results.
Some other thoughts are to have the driller go downward slowly so the CMT is not pushed ,
MT in mangled around the auger.
sideways and see if there is less of a chance of the C being g g
Solinst CMT manufacture recommends using 55 lbs ultrafine cement, 2.2 lbs of
Superplasticizers ,& 110 lbs of water at 25 psi to grout the well. Is this possible?
Let me know your thoughts.
I plan to be at this destruction to see how it goes.
Thanks for your help,
Adrienne
Adrienne Ellsaesser, REHS
Program Coordinator
San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department
1868 East Hazelton Avenue
Stockton , CA 95205
Ph (209) 468-0343
Fax (209) 468-0341
aellsaesser@sjcehd.com
I
-----Original Message-----
From: Tim Cuellar [mailto:tcuellar@advgeoenv.com]
Sent: Wednesday, October 31, 2012 10:41 AM j
To: Adrienne Ellsaesser [EH]
Subject: RE: Cryogenic drilling
Adrienne,
We are using All Well Abandonment and they only have a few hollow stem drill rigs at their
disposal; All Well Abandon is also a small drilling company and are not really equipped to
use a nitrogen application while over-drilling .
Vicki has also directed (see attached) that prior to over-drilling, we initially pressure
grout this CMT well with a 'thinned' grout mixture, then over-drill with 10-inch augers.
1
