10 February 2009
AGE-NC Project No. 95-0173
3.1. PERMITTING
All necessary well/boring permits will be submitted to the SJCEHD prior to any drilling activities.
A minimum of 48 hours notice will be given to the SJCEHD prior to performing any field work
requiring direct inspections (drilling/soil sampling/soil vapor sampling).
3.2. DRILLING ACTIVITIES
The following procedures will be performed prior to any digging/drilling activities:
k
• Prepare a Site Health and Safety Plan in accordance with the Occupational Safety and Health
Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities - Prepared by National Institute for
Occupational Safety and Health,Occupational Safetyand Health Administration,U.S.Coast
Guard and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, October 1985.
I
• Notify the SJCEHD a minimum of 48 hours prior to commencement of any work, following
the date of issue for drilling and/or well permits.
• All drilling locations will be marked at least 48 hours in advance for an Underground Service
Alert(USA) check of underground utilities or pipes.
3.2.1. Soil-Vapor Boring Advancement And Sampling
Initially, soil boring B-11 and B-12 will be advanced to a depth o,f 5 feet'bsg using an M-10,truck-
mounted mobile drill rig equipped with 1.25-inch, stainless steel, hollow probing rods. The hollow
probing rods will be advanced using the drill rig's hydraulic drive-feed to push the attached soil
V vapor sampling tool to the specified depth.
Thereafter, soil vapor samples will be obtained at depths of approximately 5 feet bsg in each boring.
Samples will be collected using a `Geoprobe' soil vapor assembly. An expendable vapor point will
be placed into a point holder at the bottom of an assembly of 1.25-inch diameter hollow drive rods.
The assembly will then be advanced to the specified depth and retracted approximately six to twelve
inches in order to disengage the expendable point and expose a column of strata from which soil
vapor can be extracted. A single use, '/a-inch diameter disposable polyethylene tubing is then
attached to a tubing adapter equipped with an O-ring to ensure a vacuum-tight seal. The adapter
assembly is then lowered through the center ofthe Geoprobe hollow drive rods to the specified depth
and secured by threading into the expendable vapor point holder.
r.
Advanced GeoEnvfronmentat,Inc.
r
