' ppm Toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes were detected in samples collected from soil probe borings
B-3, B-4, B-6, and from wells MW-6, MW-7, VW-i and VW-2 The highest concentrations of the
remaining aromatic hydrocarbons were reported in the 20-foot sample from VW-2 at 580 ppm, while
' the lowest concentrations were reported in the 35-foot sample from MW-7 at 0 0052 ppm The
analytical results of selected soil samples are summarized in Table 1 The laboratory reports (Castle
Analytical Laboratory Reference No 975 and 1151) and chain-of custody forms are included in
' Appendix G
MTBE was not detected in soil samples submitted for laboratory analysis utilizing EPA method 8020
' However, MTBE was detected in the 30-foot sample from VW-1 and in the 20-foot and VW-2 at
concentrations of 0 026 and 0 064 ppm, respectively, utilizing EPA method 8260 (Appendix D)
' One soil sample (VW-2 at 25-feet) was submitted for microbial enumeration and physicochemical
laboratory analysis The results of the analysis indicated that nitrate nitrogen was present at 9 0 ppm,
ammonium nitrogen at 17 0 ppm, orthophosphate at 17 8 ppm, potassium at 91 ppm, while moisture
was reported at 15 7% Furthermore, general microbial enumeration was not detected and the result
of the selected microbial enumeration was 0 004 CFU X 10'/gr
3 3 ANALYTICAL RESULTS OF GROUND WATER SAMPLES
A total of four grab ground water samples were collected from B-3, B-4, B-6, B-7, while nine ground
water samples were collected during quarterly sampling from wells MW-1 through MW-9 All ground
water samples were submitted to a state-certified laboratory for analysis of TPH-g, TPH-d, BTEX
and MTBE TPH-g was detected in ground water samples collected from B-3,-B-4, B-6, B-7, and
wells MW-1 through MW-4, MW-6, MW-8 and MW-9 The highest concentrations of TPH-g were
reported from MW-3 and B-3 at 140,000 micrograms per liter (or parts per billion ppb), while the
lowest was reported from MW-8 at 110 ppb
TPH-d was detected in grab ground water samples collected from soil probe borings B-3, B-4, B-6,
B-7, and wells MW-1 through MW-4, MW-6, MW-8 and MW-9 The highest concentrations of
TPH-d was reported from MW-4 at 44,000 ppb, while the lowest was reported from MW-8 at 110
ppb Furthermore, the laboratory reported that the chromatograms of hydrocarbons in both grab
ground water samples and in quarterly ground water samples were not consistent with those of diesel
fuel
rBenzene was detected in
grab ground water samples collected from soil probe borings B-3, B-4, B-6,
B-7, and from quarterly ground water samples collected from wells MW-1 through MW-4, MW-6
and MW-9 The highest concentrations of benzene was reported from MW-3 at 18,000 ppb, while
the lowest was reported from B-7 at concentrations of 46 ppb Toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes
were detected in ground water samples collected from soil probe borings B-3, B-4, B-6, and from
