18 September 1998
AGE-NC Project No 95-0173
3 1 SOIL PROFILE
Generally, interbedded pale brown to gray/brown, silty sands and silty clays/clayey silts were
encountered between 15 feet bsg and 90 feet bsg A gray, saturated fine to coarse sand was
encountered from soil boring MW-10 at depths between 30 and 40 feet bsg A gray-green, very
moist, silty, fine to medium sand was encountered in soil boring B10 between 75 feet bsg to 80 feet
bsg
Saturated soil was encountered in boring MW-10 at depths between 25 and 30 feet bsg Boring logs
are included in Appendix A
I3 2 FIELD EVIDENCE OF HYDROCARBON-IMPACTED SOIL AND GROUND WATER
No petroleum hydrocarbon odor, vapor or discoloration were observed in any soil or ground water
samples collected from B10 and MW-10 through MW-12
10 Faint to moderate petroleum hydrocarbon odor was noted in ground water samples collected from
wells MW-1, MW-4, MW-9 and AW-213, intense petroleum hydrocarbon odor was noted in ground
water samples collected from wells MW-2, MW-3, MW-6, AW-1B and VW-1 Ground water
samples collected from well MW-8 emitted a different, unidentified odor not encountered in the
other wells
3 3 QUARTERLY GROUND WATER ELEVATION AND GRADIENT
On 17 July 1998, the depths to ground water in wells MW-1 through MW-12 ranged between 23 63
and 26 01 feet bsg Ground water elevations, as measured on 17 July 1997, are depicted in Figure
6 In July 1998, the general ground water gradient at the site was calculated to be approximately
0 002 ft/ft or approximately 13 feet per mile and directed towards the northeast Due to the low
gradient at the site, slight variations in ground water measurements or changes of recharge/discharge
of the local ground water could greatly modify the inferred ground water flow direction
34 ANALYTICAL RESULTS OF SOIL SAMPLES
A total of nine soil samples were submitted to a state-certified laboratory for analysis of TPH-g,
TPH-d, BTE&X and fuel oxygenates. Utilizing EPA Methods 8015M, 8020 and 8260M, the
laboratory did not detect any petroleum hydrocarbons at concentrations above the laboratory
reporting limits The analytical results of selected soil samples are summarized in Table 1 The
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc
