21 March 1997 <br /> AGE-NC Project No 95-0173 <br /> Page 2 of 8 <br /> In December 1996, six soil probe borings (B-3 through B-8) were advanced off-site <br /> Impacted soil was encountered in three of the six probe bonngs (B-3, B-4 and B-6), impacted <br /> ground water was encountered in four of six probe borings (B-3, B-4, B-6 and B-7) <br /> Details of previous investigations were included in the Pielinnnary Investigation acrd Evaluatiun <br /> Report (PIER), dated 09 September 1996 and the Quarterly Repoi t - December 1996, dated 28 <br /> February 1997, both prepared by AGE <br /> 3 0 SCOPE OF WORK <br /> 3 I DRILLING AND SAMPLING <br /> The proposed scope of work includes the advancement of eight soil borings and the collection of soil <br /> and ground water samples Five of the boring will be completed as ground water monitoring wells, <br /> two borings will be dual-completed as soil vapor extraction (SVE) wells, and one boring will be <br /> completed as an in-situ air sparging (IAS) well An SVE/IAS pilot test will be performed following <br /> the completion of the SVE and IAS wells <br /> Ground water monitoring wells will be advanced fifteen feet below ground water (approximately fifty <br /> feet bsg), soil vapor extraction wells will be dual-completed within the vadose zone (approximately <br /> thirty-five feet bsg), the IAS well will be completed ten feet below ground water (approximately <br /> forty-five feet bsg) <br /> Ground water monitoring and SVE wells will be advanced utilizing a truck-mounted drill rig and <br /> 8 25-inch hollow-stem augers, the IAS well will be advanced using.a Geoprobe 5400 soil probing <br /> unit Cuttings generated during drilling activities will be placed on plastic sheeting Rinseate will be <br /> containerized in properly labeled D O T model 17H 55-gallon drums and stored on-site in an area <br /> inaccessible to the general public Disposal alternatives will be evaluated based on results of the soil <br /> ground water analysis <br /> Soil samples will be collected at five-foot intervals beginning at a depth of 15 feet bsg using a <br /> Califuirn a split-spoon sampler and brass sleeves Tiic 5anipler will be di even by di opping a 140-pound <br /> weight from a height of 30 inches Soil samples will be collected from the lAS well using Geoprobe <br /> soil sampling assembly loaded with pre-cleaned 1125-inch by 6-inch brass sleeves Upon soil sample <br /> retrieval, the middle brass sleeve will be removed from the sampler The ends of the brass sleeve will <br /> be immediately covered with Teflon sheets, sealed with plastic end caps, secured with tape and <br /> immediately placed in a chilled container for transportation under chain of custody protocol to a <br /> State-certified laboratory Each sample sleeve will be labeled with the following boring location, <br /> depth, time, date and sampler's initials <br />
