21 March 1997
AGE-NC Project No 95-0173
content as well as other parameters necessary for specific environmental fate evaluations Selected
samples will also be transmitted to a microbiological laboratory for physicochemical analysis and
microbiological enumeration to determine existing bacteria populations Prior to laboratory analysis,
the PHS-EHD will be given an opportunity to review samples selected for analysis
3 5 SOIL VAPOR EXTRACTION PILOT TEST
Following well installation, a soil vapor extraction (SVE) pilot test will be performed in order to
determine remedial feasibility Soil vapor field parameters and analytical results will facilitate the
design of an SVE system and will be used to determine the number of vapor wells, the spacing of
wells and the selection of an SVE system
An internal combustion (IC) driven engine will be used to apply a vacuum on one of the SVE well
screened intervals while the flow from other selected screened intervals are measured The duration
of the SVE pilot test will be approximately 8-hours Soil vapor samples will be collected at regular
intervals in Tedlar bags and analyzed. for TPH-g, TPH-d, BTE&X and MTBE at a state certified
. laboratory Results of the SVE pilot test will be included in a Corrective Action Plan (CAP) and
submitted to PHS-EHD
36 AIR SPARGING PILOT TEST
For perfonnance of an in-situ air sparging (IAS) pilot test, a compressor driven unit will be used to
infect air into the subsurface via the IAS well Data collected during the IAS pilot test will be used
to determine if IAS is a feasible remedial option for this site
The IAS pilot test will be operated for a period of 96-hours (4 days) Several parameters, including
radius of influence, sparging rate, sparging vapor concentrations, ground water depths and dissolved
oxygen will be measured at regular intervals Results of the IAS pilot test will be included in a CAP
4.4. PROCEDURES
4 1 ADVANCEMENT AND SAMPLING OF SOIL BORINGS
The following procedures will be performed for the advancement of soil probe borings
Notify the Public Health Services -Environmental Health Division at least 48 hours prior to
• commencement of any work, while securing proper city/county permits
