21 March 1997
AGE-NC Project No 95-0173
• Store purged water in 55-gallon DOT drums on-site pending analytical results
44 SOIL VAPOR EXTRACTION PILOT TEST
For performance of a soil vapor extraction pilot test, the following procedures will be performed
• A portable internal combustion extraction system will be set-up on-site and operated for a
period of 8 to 10 hours to determine the subsurface permeability to vapor, radial influence of
the vapor extraction well, and the initial hydrocarbon recovery rate
Four vapor samples will be collected during the test Samples will be collected at
approximately 2-hour intervals and measure the hydrocarbons concentration in the extracted
vapors The samples will then be transported under chain-of-custody to a state-certified
laboratory for analysis Each vapor sample will be analyzed for TPH-g and BTE&X in
accordance with the appropriate EPA methods
• Results of the SVE pilot test will be used to determine feasibility of soil vapor extraction at
. the site
4 5 IN-SITU AIR SPARGING PILOT TEST
for performance of an IAS pilot test, the following procedures will be followed
• A compressor-driven unit will be used to infect air into the subsurface via the TAS well
• Parameters to be measured during the IAS pilot test include induced pressure at monitoring
points, sparging rate (discharge rate), vapor concentrations at monitoring points, depth to
ground water in ground water monitoring wells and dissolved oxygen
• Ground water samples will be collected from selected wells prior to initiation of the pilot
study and at the completion of the pilot study Ground water samples will be collected using
disposable bailers and new nylon rope, samples will be collected in 40-m1 VOA vials and one-
liter amber bottles
• Store the samples in a chilled container and transport under chain-of-custody protocol to a
state-certified laboratory for analysis Ground water samples will be analyzed for TPH-g,
TPH-d, BTEX, MTBE and iron in accordance with EPA methods
46 REPORT PREPARATION
Upon completion of probing, sampling and laboratory analysis, a report will beP repared summarizing
