Remediation Objectives
Four remediation objectives have been developed for remediation at the
site. These are:
• Extracted Ground Water Treatment Objective. This objective is
developed for treatment of ground water extracted at dual phase
extraction wells and plume margin wells. Ground water treatment
will be in accordance with WDRs specified by RWQCB Order No.
92-226 and CAO No. 92-707. Extracted ground water will be
treated by air stripping and carbon adsorption processes to remove
VOCs in ground water to below maximum contaminant levels
(MCLS) prior to ground water reinjection.
• Extracted Soil Vapor Treatment Objective. Soil vapor extracted at
dual phase extraction wells and soil vapor extraction wells will be
treated by catalytic oxidation to destroy VOCs in the soil vapor.
Soil vapor will be treated to applicable air quality standards, and
discharged to the atmosphere.
• Remediation of Vadose Zone Soil at the Site. During remediation
at the site, extracted soil vapor will be monitored for VOC
concentrations. Soil vapor extraction will continue until the
practical limitation of the technology is reached.
• A-Zone Ground Water Plume Control. Ground water monitoring
will be conducted during remediation at the site to document
successful control of the VOC ground water plume and the
removal of the soil vapor and floating product sources of impacts
to A-zone ground water quality.
Each of these treatment objectives is discussed below.
Treatment Objectives
Extracted ground water and soil vapor treatment objectives are discussed
below.
4-8
