' 20 December 2001
• AGE-NC Project No 95-0128
I2 1 INSTALLATION OF GROLND WATER EXTRACTION PUMP
On 01 August 2001, AGE installed a 4-inch diameter, stainless steel model 5E Grundfos Rediflow
down-well pump equipped with 230 volt Franklin 1/3-horsepower motor in ground water extraction
well EW-1 The Grundfos pump was externally equipped with a one-way check valve to prevent
back-flow The Grundfos pump was installed in extraction well EW-1 at a depth of approximately
' 42 feet below surface grade(bsg) Schedule 80, 1-inch diameter poly vinyl chloride(PVC)piping was
routed from the pump to the top of the well casing and through a 6-inch diameter sanitary well seal
' At surface grade, a PVC valve and flow meter were installed at the outlet of the well head to control
and monitor the extraction flow rate A generalized diagram of the pump and well design is presented
in Figure 5
I2 2 INSTALLATION OF GROUND WATER PUMP AND TREAT SYSTEM
AGE installed an on-site ground water pump and treat system, ground water pump and treat
installation procedures For the site were outlined inMonitoring Welllnstallation and Interim Ground
Water Remediation
' Between 15 July and 01 October 2001, a ground water pump and treat system was installed at the
site The remediation system was Installed inside a gated enclosure. Two 1,000-pound media vessels,
one 300-gallon poly tank (holding tank), one process pump and one sediment filter chamber were
' installed for the ground water pump and treat system The influent piping was routed to a 300-gallon
poly tank (holding tank) at the east-section of the gated enclosure The holding tank was equipped
with various water level float switches to govern the rate at which extracted water was introduced
' into the treatment vessels, to allow coarser sediment to settle out prior to treatment and to provide
safety shutoff capabilities A high float (high-high) was installed near the top of the holding tank
designed to shut the entire treatment system down ifwater level exceeds the high-high float A middle
' float was installed near the middle of the holding tank to turn on the process pump A low float was
installed near the bottom of the holding tank (low-low) to turn off the process pump A PVC
sampling port was installed downstream of the holding tank for sampling
A 113-horsepower, 120-volt,single-phase sump/process pump was Installed within the holding tank
' The process pump Is designed to process ground water through the treatment system at a maximum
flow rate of 5 gallons per minute (GPM) From the process pump, 1-inch diameter PVC piping
(schedule 40) was routed to a 3-gallon suspended solids filter chamber equipped with 25-micron
replaceable blown-fabric sediment filter bags
From the filter chamber, schedule 40 PVC piping was routed to two 1,000-pound vessels containing
granular activated carbon (GAC - liquid phase filtration media) The two GAC media vessels are
Advanced CeoEnvironmental Inc
