• 08 October 1997
AGE-NC Project No 95-0128
34 SOIL VAPOR EXTRACTION/IN-SITU AIR SPARGING TEST
To determine the feasibility of remedial options at the site, AGE will perform an SVE/IAS pilot test
The SVE pilot test will be conducted for an eight-hour period at the site, the duration of the IAS pilot
test will be approximately 96-hours (4 days)
For the SVE test, an internal-combustion unit will be used to apply a vacuum to one extraction well
The induced vacuum will be measured at selected SVE wells and/or monitoring wells on the site Soil
gas vapor concentrations from the extraction well will be measured throughout the pilot test Four
soil vapor samples will also be collected during the pilot test and submitted to a laboratory for
analysis
The IAS pilot test will be conducted by infecting air into two wells using a compressor-driven unit
X1c Several parameters, including radius of influence, sparging rate, sparging vapor concentrations,
k1' ground water depths and dissolved oxygen, will be measured at each sparging point and at selected
monitoring wells Results of the SVE/IAS pilot test will be included in a Revised Corrective Action
Plan (CAP)
4 0. PROCEDURES
41 INSTALLATION OF GROUND WATER MONITORING WELLS
The following procedures will be performed for installation of the monitoring wells
1 Advance soil borings using a truck-mounted dell ng Two borings will be advanced to depths
of 45 feet bsg using 8 25-inch hollow stem augers and two soil boring will be advanced to a
depth of 60 feet bsg using 10-inch diameter hollow-stem augers for dual-completion Refer
to Figure 2 for proposed soil borings locations and type of completion
2 Decontaminate all sampling equipment in an Alconox solution and rinse twice with water
prior to each sampling run Steam-clean auger flights before advancement of each boring
SallipIG son' viii each boring, beguuung dt rive feet bsg, utilizing a California split-spoon
sampler and pre-cleaned 2-inch by 6-inch brass sleeves
4 Preserve soil in the brass sleeve by covering both ends with aluminum foil or Teflon-tape,
capping, and sealing with tape
5 Store the samples under ice and transport the samples in a chilled ice chest to a state-certified
laboratory for analysis
6 Screen soil sample duplicates for the presence of volatile organic compounds using an organic
Advanced Geormilromnental,Inc
