This
work was performed to investigate for the presence of Gasoline and
Diesel compounds in subsurface materials at the site. Chemical
analysis of soil samples reveal relatively high Gasoline compounds
in the samples recovered from soil borings located east of the
existing fuel tanks (Borings B-3 and B-7) , and from one boring
lc: ited near the north eastern limits of the site (Boring B-1) .
TI highest levels of Gasoline compounds are found in samples
recovered from Boring B--1. The highest levels of Gasoline
compounds were found in samples recovered near the soil - ground
water interface. The highest levels of Diesel compounds were found
in a sample recovered from beneath (approximately 2-1/2 feet deep)
the existing diesel dispenser.
Sources for gasoline compounds found in the subsurface materials at
the site are not known. Failed precision tests indicate that the
integrity of the f•iel storage tanks and/or piping is questionable.
The existing fuel storage tanks at the site are possible sources
for the Gasoline compou;:-3s. Continuing use of these tanks, as they
exist, is not recommended. The SJCPHS will likely require these
tanks and related piping be either retro--fitted to meet current
underground storage tank regulations, or appropriately removed.
The extent of the Gasojine and Diesel compounds found in the soils
beneath the site is not known. The California Regional Water
Quality Control Board (RWQCB) , and the SJCPHS will require
characterization of the Gasoline and Diesel compounds found at the
site. The impact of these compounds to ground water will also
.require investigation. This can be accomplished with the
installation, of ground water monitoring wells at the site. Water
samples from these wells will be periodically recovered and
chemically analyzed for the above-mentioned compounds. When the
extent and nature of these compounds is characterized, remediation
TMC Environmental, Inc. / San Pablo, California 9 of 12
