ARCADIS Phase II Field
Investigation Work Plan
2.3 Monitoring Well Installation and Sampling Union Pacific Railroad
Company
Former Maintenance Facility
It is anticipated that up to five monitoring wells will be installed based on the Tracy,California
CPT/HydroPunchTm data obtained in this investigation,as well as current groundwater
monitoring data. Monitoring wells will be installed in the A-Zone using a hollow-stem
auger drill rig. Details of installation methods are provided in Appendix B. Sampling
methods are described in the 2007/2008 Annual Groundwater Monitoring Report
(ARCADIS 2008b). Monitoring wells will be sampled quarterly until sufficient data are
obtained to evaluate plume stability. Samples will be analyzed for the following:
• TEPH as diesel using United States Environmental Protection Agency(USEPA)
Method 8015B;
• TEPH as diesel following a silica gel cleanup(TEPH-SG as diesel) using USEPA
Method 3630C;
• VOCs using USEPA Method 826013;
• Biogeochemical analyses in accordance with Table 3.
Biogeochemical analysis will be conducted on groundwater samples collected from
select upgradient, source area,transition zone, and downgradient monitoring wells.
The objective of this analysis is to assess natural attenuation processes at the Site by
evaluating biogeochemical data trends within and outside the A-Zone TEPH plume. A
baseline sampling event will be conducted following installation of transition zone
shallow monitoring wells. Future biogeochemical analysis may be completed on a
semi-annual to annual frequency to assess biogeochemical conditions during high and
low water-table conditions.The parameter list may be modified as needed depending
upon the baseline results and biogeochemical analyses may be discontinued once a
set of seasonal data is obtained.
3. Reporting
Upon completion of the field investigation described herein, as well as follow-up work
that may be necessary to meet the objectives, an investigation report will be submitted.
This report is intended to summarize the field efforts that have been conducted to date,
including those completed as part of the Phase I Investigation.
C'.1Dnts and Seft ngs*bm dt\Lod Sea ngsJT po y Intemet FAes\ContenLOudcokt52S%LSSITha It NP_01_05_09(2).doc 5/6
