Structure <br /> 1 The staff within each laboratory is organized into two <br /> primary sections: inorganic and organic (Figure 1) . Each <br /> section is subdivided into departments having functional <br /> responsibilities; each is supervised by a senior analyst. <br /> Each laboratory has a director responsible for verifying <br /> all analytical work. The laboratory-wide quality assurance <br /> program is headed by a. quality assurance manager respon- <br /> sible for monitoring the performance of the laboratories <br /> and for taking corrective action as needed.
