submitted to the laboratory. The soil sampling equipment will be cleansed between each
sampling by washing the equipment with an Alconox°solution followed by a double rinse with
deionized water. The rinseate water will be discharged to ground surface areas within the
Caltrans right of way which do not slope to drainage inlets or surface water bodies.
• The fieldwork will be performed under the direct supervision of Geocon's field supervisor
and/or project manager.
Laboratory Analyses
The soil samples will be analyzed under a standard ten-day tum-around-time for the following:
• Each of the soil samples collected from the median and shoulders of Route 99 will be
homogenized by the laboratory and analyzed for total lead using Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA)Test Method 6010B.
• Soil samples containing total lead concentrations greater than 50 mg/kg will be analyzed for
soluble lead using the WET method, EPA Test Method 7000. Soil samples with total lead
concentrations greater than 1,000 mg/kg will be analyzed for toxicity characteristic leaching
procedure(TCLP).
• Soil samples analyzed by the WET method containing soluble lead concentrations greater than
5.0 milligrams per liter (mg/1) will further be analyzed for soluble lead following the WET
method utilizing deionized water as the extractant(DI-WET).
• Ten percent of the soil samples will be analyzed for soil pH using EPA Test Method 9045.
• Each of the asbestos samples will be analyzed for asbestos type and content using polarized light
microscopy and phased contrast microscopy.
• Each of the LCP samples, as well as the soil samples collected from the hand-auger borings
adjacent to the bridges, will be analyzed for Title 22 metals following EPA Test Method 6010B.
QA/QC procedures will be performed for each method of analysis with specificity for each analyte
listed in the test method's QA/QC. QA/QC measures will include the following:
• One method blank for every ten samples, batch of samples or type of matrix, whichever is more
frequent.
• One sample analyzed in duplicate for every ten samples, batch of samples or type of matrix,
whichever is more frequent.
• One spiked sample for every ten samples, batch of samples or type of matrix, whichever is more
frequent, with spike made•at ten times the detection limit or at the analyte level.
Project No.S8475-06-27 -4- April 3,2002
