Monitoring Well MW1 was again <br /> sampled on August 2, 1991 and was again free of detectable levels of hydrocarbon constituents. <br /> Based upon the relatively small volume of impacted soils remaining in place combined with the <br /> low permeability native soils, RESNA recommended no further action at this site. <br /> Based upon the shallow historical groundwater in the vicinity of the site, an additional <br /> investigation was requested by the PHS/EHD in a letter dated March 10, .1992, including a <br /> mi appropriate submittal f o an app op ate remedial investigation addressing the Boll contamination remaining <br /> in place. <br /> The results from laboratory analysis collected during the field activities to date, indicate that <br /> limited hydrocarbon contamination,has occurred as a result of leakage from the former diesel <br /> underground storage tank. It is estimated that approximately 10 to 20 cubic yards of impacted <br /> soil remain in place. <br /> EXCAVATION <br /> Suspected hydrocarbon impacted soils will be excavated by employing a California licensed <br /> contractor utilizing an excavator capable of reaching depths of approximately 22 feet below <br /> grade. All field activities will be performed under the direction of a California registered <br /> geologist. <br /> ist.g <br /> It is anticipated that a portion of the concrete sidewalk north of the planned excavation and <br /> Picardy Drive to the south may require removal. All work will be performed under an <br /> encroachment permit issued by the City. <br /> Excavated soils will be field screened using a Photo Ionization Detector (PID) to detect volatile <br /> organic vapors. Hydrocarbon impacted soils will be stockpiled and separated from clean soils <br /> based upon PID measurements and field observations (odor, discoloration). <br /> Hydrocarbon impacted soils will be covered and underlain by 6 mil plastic sheeting, if <br /> necessary, pending results of laboratory analysis for the determination of the appropriate <br /> remediation/disposal method. It is anticipated that diesel impacted soils will be used as roadbase <br /> material. <br /> SFSb92.TJL <br />
